Cosmetologist meets Writer
A Love Story
Hello there,
My name is Karissa Copeland and it's a pleasure to meet you!

Since we are just getting acquainted, I will start at the beginning.

I couldn't have been older than 10 when my Grandma, a fellow cosmetologist, gifted me the textbooks she had saved from her time in beauty school. Those books were filled with pin-curls, finger-waves, and roller-sets, but I was hooked! I had to try these styles. I had to really test the color wheel. And I absolutely had to have that spiral perm. From that moment forward, my poor hair went through hell!

In 2011, I began my own cosmetology school journey. Much to my surprise, all of the material in my Grandma's seemingly ancient textbooks was still being taught. As a matter of fact, it was all still worded the same. How could verbiage from the 1950's be relevant in 2011? And how could I craft something so meaningful that it would still be utilized 60 years from now?
Thus, a writer was born!

I had always enjoyed reading and writing poems. Heck, I even wrote a book when I was 12 years old, but I had never considered writing as a career, especially in an industry I was passionate about. At that time, I wasn't even sure it was possible. So, I worked behind the chair, as any new graduate would. And let me tell you, I loved it and I lived it!
But, I wanted more!
I wanted to educate. I wanted to impact a larger audience. And I wanted to promote like-minded salon owners, product developers, and stylists.
I knew I couldn't do all those things from behind the chair, so I hung up my apron and pulled out my laptop.
Today, I am using my knowledge, skills, and passion to help other beauty industry professionals achieve their own dreams!

Why work with a general writer who can only research the beauty industry, when you can collaborate with an industry professional who has lived it?
